This policy explains how howmuchweddingcaniafford.com (“we”, “us”, “this site”) handles information when you visit. We have tried to write it in plain language rather than legalese.
The short version
We do not ask you to create an account or give us an email address. The numbers you type into the calculator are processed in your browser and are never transmitted to us or stored on our servers. We use third-party services for advertising and basic traffic analytics, and those services set cookies and collect data as described below.
Information you enter into the calculator
The calculator asks for figures such as your combined monthly income, current savings, monthly savings capacity, family contributions, wedding date, and region. All of this is handled entirely by JavaScript running on your own device.
These figures are not sent to our servers, not written to a database, and not visible to us at any point. When you close or reload the page, they are gone.
One exception worth knowing: if you use the “copy shareable link” feature, your inputs are encoded into the URL itself so that anyone opening that link sees the same result. That link contains your figures. Only share it with people you are happy to share those numbers with, and be aware that pasting it into a third-party service means that service can see it too.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, our hosting provider and the third-party services below receive standard technical information when you load a page. This can include your IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, the pages you viewed, the time of your visit, and the referring page. This is used to keep the site running, diagnose problems, and understand aggregate traffic patterns.
Cookies and advertising
This site is supported by display advertising. We use third-party advertising companies to serve ads when you visit.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising from other participating vendors at aboutads.info/choices or the NAI opt-out page.
- Opting out of personalised ads does not remove ads — you will simply see less relevant ones.
You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings. The calculator itself does not require cookies and will work normally with them disabled.
Analytics
We may use a privacy-respecting analytics service to count page views and understand which guides people find useful. This tells us things like “400 people read the savings plan guide this week”. It does not tell us who you are, and we do not attempt to identify individual visitors.
Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland
If you are in a region covered by the GDPR or UK GDPR, our lawful bases for processing are your consent (for advertising and analytics cookies, collected via the consent notice shown on your first visit) and our legitimate interest in operating and securing the site.
You have the right to access, correct, or erase personal data we hold about you, to object to or restrict processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. Because we do not operate accounts or store your calculator inputs, in most cases we hold no personal data about you at all — but you are welcome to ask. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Visitors in California
Under the CCPA/CPRA you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell your personal information. Advertising cookies set by third parties may constitute “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising under California law; you can opt out using the advertising links above or by enabling a Global Privacy Control signal in your browser, which we honour.
Children
This site is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA/UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Data retention and security
We do not maintain a user database, so there is no stored profile to retain. Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to handle your enquiry, and are deleted on request. Server logs held by our hosting provider are retained for a limited period for security and troubleshooting. The site is served over HTTPS.
External links
Our guides sometimes link to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites, and this policy does not apply to them. We would encourage you to read the privacy policy of any site you visit from here.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site changes or as legal requirements evolve. The “last updated” date at the top will always reflect the current version. Material changes will be noted on this page.
